Course description
Starts and finishes at Lake Cuyamaca, staying mostly between 4,000 and 5,000 feet in the Cleveland National Forest’s Mount Laguna District. The course strings together five distinct regions: Lake Cuyamaca, Rancho Cuyamaca and Anza-Borrego State Parks, Noble Canyon, the Mt. Laguna Recreational Area, and a section of the Pacific Crest Trail — 85% technical singletrack, running under a permit on the Cleveland National Forest.
Elevation change
Over 13,000 feet of combined ascent and descent.
Aid stations
16 fully stocked aid stations, with drop bag service at 8 of them. Notable stops include Pioneer Mail, Cibbets Flat (mile 64), Meadows, and Sunrise — the larger stations with the most food variety, some of which are hit twice depending on the routing.
Special conditions & average temps
Late-April/early-May in the Cuyamaca and Laguna Mountains means warm, dry days and genuinely cold nights at elevation — bring layers regardless of the daytime forecast. This is a cupless event: runners are required to carry their own cup or container at aid stations, no disposable cups provided. Runners over 60 may start one hour early, though aid stations still open on the standard schedule.

Registration deadline & how to get in
Opens January 1 at 12:01 a.m. on UltraSignup, first-come-first-served until the field hits 300 entrants or April 1, whichever comes first — no lottery. Applicants must have completed an official 50-mile race in 13 hours or less, or a 100K/100-mile race, within roughly the prior two years. Entrants also owe 6 hours of trail-work volunteering (or a $105 donation in lieu) before race day. The 50% refund deadline is March 15. San Diego 100 is a regular Western States 100 qualifying race — finishing within 32 hours qualifies a runner for the WSER lottery.
