Course description

Eight repeats of a 12.5-mile loop through Dauset Trails Nature Center and Indian Springs State Park in the Georgia Piedmont — beautiful, gently rolling singletrack explicitly designed with first-time 100-milers and PR seekers in mind, benefiting both parks the race is hosted on. With only two aid stations per loop but easy crew access at both, runners can set up their own tent, food, and gear at the start/finish and effectively re-supply themselves throughout the race, which is part of what makes this one of the most forgiving 100-mile debuts in the Southeast.

Elevation change

Approximately 9,000 feet of cumulative gain across all eight loops — roughly 1,100 feet per loop, an elevation rating of “hilly” rather than mountainous, on mostly groomed trail and dirt road.

Aid stations

2 well-stocked aid stations per 12.5-mile loop, with typical snacks and drinks plus hot food in the evening — soup, hot dogs, and grilled cheese among the offerings. Easy crew access at both stations each loop means runners can effectively build their own personal aid station at the start/finish area and revisit it eight times over the course of the race.

Special conditions & average temps

Late March in the Georgia Piedmont typically brings mild, spring-like conditions with cool mornings and comfortable daytime temperatures, though rain is always possible. The loop format and forgiving terrain make this a genuinely beginner-friendly 100 despite the distance — though the race organizers are clear it’s “not designed for a couch to 100,” requiring a prior 50K finish to enter.

Registration deadline & how to get in

Registration is handled through UltraSignup; entrants must have completed an official 50K race, or at least 50 miles on the Bootlegger course itself, before signing up. Bootlegger is a Western States 100 qualifier, and the race also raffles off a Western States entry among finishers each year. Registering before October 1 the year prior keeps you eligible for that raffle.
